Left Lane Maniacs

Maybe this post is relevant to Dubai only, but go ahead and read ... u never know maybe you face the same stupidity and ignorance :)

When driving, you have to have a certain level of expectancy for stupid drivers, or you are just not realistic. However, in the past few years, I have witnessed an exponential increase in this specific number: the number of stupid drivers on the road.


One of the situations where they really shine, is their use of the left lane, or the fast lane. What the traffic rules say: use the fast lane only for bypassing other cars in the slow lane. The unwritten rules between professional drivers say: as long as the lane on your right, is moving slower than you, then stick to the lane you are in. However, what has been happening is that everybody thinks the fast lane is a miracle lane, where any car touching this lane is blessed with the eternal gift of speed. So the logical consequence of this is, all the traffic is on the fast lane, while the slower right lanes are all empty.

The funny part is that if police sees you bypassing from the right you are fined on the spot for reckless driving. Another thing is, you still find the good drivers driving on the slower lanes, so its not really free ... and this is where real traffic is formed.

We keep on blaming Dubai government for moving slowly, while i think they CANNOT go beyond 5/6 lanes on the highway! It is up to us to use it wisely. We keep on complaining about reckless drivers ... true, but out of all these reckless drivers, 75% are reckless because they are frustrated with the traffic generated by people who lost the ability to think logically. I am not placing the entire blame on them, but the fact that no blame was ever placed on them, drives me to post this with passion.

Gone are the days when driving in Dubai was fun ...
